The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

This year, Team b.strong is proud to be part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Team b.strong was created by Bernard Llave and his wife, Dee. Bernard was an endurance athlete, and even though he was undergoing chemotherapy, he continued doing marathons and long-distance races. Bernard fought Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) for 8 years until he passed away in 2020. He was supported by LLS throughout his treatment.

Candidates Ellie and Emily want to use Student Visionaries to spread the impact Bernard had on the LLS community. They look up to him and his wife, Dee, and after hearing what they went through, raise money so that one day, nobody else has to endure what they did. They are proud to run under the b.strong name.
